Dear Meadow

A casting director can find a face. What no one can manufacture is what passes between two people who already belong to each other. The weight of a child carried by someone who has carried her a thousand times. The ease in a gaze, a hand, a posture that no direction produces. This series began with finding that, not staging it.

Shot in black and white with photographer Joe Charles, Dear Meadow follows Kadeem and his daughter, Meadow. Stripped of color, what is left is gesture. How he holds her, how she settles against him, the quiet steadiness of a father at rest. Not a portrayal of fatherhood. A father, photographed.

Dear Meadow, you will not remember being this small. The pictures will.
